GERHARD POLITZ

Gerhard Politz holds professional certifications from two European countries. In his native Germany he took the Professional Reitlehrer FN exams, and while living in England the British Horse Society Instructor’s exams. Residing in the US since 1987, Gerhard was invited to become an examiner for USDF (United States Dressage Federation) Instructor certification and to join the faculty of USDF. He has taught at the National Symposium and is also a member of the test writing committee. In 1993 he became a member of the International Dressage Trainer’s Club.

In Germany, Gerhard prepared apprentices for their professional exams, many of them passing with honors, as well as training and showing many horses successfully through Grand Prix. At Flintridge Riding Club, Gerhard will take apprentices working toward USDF certification. He was awarded the German gold medal for wins at the FEI level and in less than two years of competing in the US he obtained the USDF bronze, silver, and gold medals.

In more than 50 years of professional experience, Gerhard has gathered extensive knowledge educating all types of horses and riders. He has special expertise in improving the horse’s way of going on the lunge line and improving the rider through seat lessons and then combining the results under saddle. He strongly believes in developing the pushing powers in order to enhance collection. In this context, he has been successful in solving a wide variety of horse and rider related problems. Among Gerhard’s many talents are training flying changes every stride and piaffe and passage, including work-in-hand.

Gerhard likes to teach students who are serious about improving their riding and showing skills. He is a patient but demanding teacher. He teaches both group lessons and lower level riders; however absolute beginners might not be appropriate.
